Clinical features include paraplegia, quadriplegia, sensory loss appropriate to the level of the spinal cord involved and sphincter dysfunction. Other clinical features of anti-phospholipid syndrome may be present. Diagnosis may be aided by spinal imaging, spinal fluid analysis and serological testing for antibodies associated with anti-phospholipid syndrome including anti-cardiolipin, beta2-glycoprotein and lupus anticoagulant.
