Psoriatic onycholysis denotes separation of the nail plate from the underlying nail bed and is common in psoriasis. The separation usually starts at the distal free edge and may be accompanied by erythema of the adjacent nail bed ("salmon patches"). In severe cases this may result in nail shedding.
