Transtornos do neurodesenvolvimento são transtornos comportamentais e cognitivos que surgem durante o período de desenvolvimento que envolvem dificuldades significativas na aquisição e execução de funções intelectuais, motoras, de linguagem ou sociais específicas. Apesar de déficits comportamentais e cognitivos estarem presentes em muitos transtornos mentais e comportamentais que podem surgir durante o período de desenvolvimento (p.ex. esquizofrenia, transtorno bipolar), somente transtornos cujas características centrais são do neurodesenvolvimento são incluídos nesse grupo. Neurodevelopmental disorders are behavioural and cognitive disorders that arise during the developmental period that involve significant difficulties in the acquisition and execution of specific intellectual, motor, language, or social functions. Although behavioural and cognitive deficits are present in many mental and behavioural disorders that can arise during the developmental period (e.g., Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder), only disorders whose core features are neurodevelopmental are included in this grouping.
