Cefaleia ou dor orofacial primárias crônicas são definidas como cefaleia ou dor orofacial que ocorre em pelo menos 50% dos dias durante pelo menos 3 meses. É caracterizada por sofrimento emocional significativo (ansiedade, raiva/frustração ou humor deprimido) ou incapacidade funcional (interferência nas atividades da vida diária, participação reduzida em papéis sociais). Cefaleia ou dor orofacial primárias crônicas são multifatoriais: fatores biológicos, psicológicos e sociais contribuem para a síndrome dolorosa. O diagnóstico é adequado independentemente dos contribuintes biológicos ou psicológicos identificados, a menos que outro diagnóstico explique melhor os sintomas apresentados.
