Durante a maioria dos ciclos menstruais no último ano, um padrão de sintomas de humor (humor deprimido, irritabilidade), sintomas somáticos (letargia, dor nas articulações, ingesta excessiva) ou sintomas cognitivos (dificuldades de concentração, esquecimento) que começam vários dias antes do início da menstruação, começa a melhorar dentro de alguns dias após o início da menstruação e, em seguida, torna-se mínima ou ausente em aproximadamente 1 semana após o início da menstruação. A relação temporal dos sintomas e das fases lútea e menstrual do ciclo deve, idealmente, ser confirmada por um diário de sintomas prospectivo ao longo de pelo menos dois ciclos menstruais sintomáticos. The temporal relationship of the symptoms and luteal and menstrual phases of the cycle should ideally be confirmed by a prospective symptom diary over at least two symptomatic menstrual cycles.
