Tromboangiite obliterante (TAO), ou doença de Buerger, é uma condição inflamatória oclusiva segmentar de artérias e veias, com trombose e recanalização dos vasos afetados. É uma doença inflamatória não aterosclerótica que afeta artérias e veias de pequeno e médio calibre das extremidades superiores e inferiores. A TAO pode ser distinguida de outros tipos de vasculite com base em sua tendência de ocorrer em indivíduos jovens do sexo masculino. A etiologia e patogênese da TAO permanece desconhecida; no entanto, o consumo de tabaco desempenha um papel fundamental no início e na persistência da doença.

Thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO), or Buerger's disease, is a segmental occlusive inflammatory condition of arteries and veins, with thrombosis and recanalization of the affected vessels. It is a nonatherosclerotic inflammatory disease affecting small and medium sized arteries and veins of upper and lower extremities. TAO can be distinguished from other types of vasculitis based on its tendency to occur in young male subjects. The etiology and pathogenesis of TAO remains unknown; however, tobacco consumption plays a key role in the initiation and persistence of the disease.
