This is the intracardiac formation of a blood clot. Intracardiac thrombosis can occur following myocardial infarction with ventricular thrombus formation, or with atrial fibrillation and mitral stenosis where atrial thrombi predominate. Intracardiac thrombi are asymptomatic unless there is distal embolization, resulting in ischemic stroke, visceral infarction or distal limb ischemia.
