Transtorno do desenvolvimento da fluência da fala é caracterizado por perturbação frequente ou pervasiva do fluxo rítmico e velocidade da fala normais, caracterizada por repetições e prolongamentos de sons, sílabas, palavras e frases, bem como bloqueio e evitação ou substituição de palavras. A disfluência na fala é persistente ao longo do tempo. O início da disfluência na fala ocorre durante o período de desenvolvimento, e a fluência na fala é marcadamente inferior ao que se esperaria para a idade. A disfluência na fala resulta em comprometimento significativo na comunicação social e na funcionalidade pessoal, familiar, social, educacional, ocupacional ou em outras áreas importantes da funcionalidade. A disfluência na fala não é melhor explicada por um transtorno do desenvolvimento Intelectual, uma doença do sistema nervoso, uma deficiência sensorial ou uma anormalidade estrutural ou outro transtorno da fala ou da voz. | |||

The speech dysfluency is persistent over time. The onset of speech dysfluency occurs during the developmental period and speech fluency is markedly below what would be expected for age. Speech dysfluency results in significant impairment in social communication, personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning. The speech dysfluency is not better accounted for by a Disorder of Intellectual Development, a Disease of the Nervous System, a sensory impairment, or a structural abnormality, or other speech or voice disorder. | |||
