O diabetes insípido central (DIC) é uma doença hipotálamo-hipofisária caracterizada por poliúria e polidipsia devido à deficiência de vasopressina (AVP). A condição pode estar associada à secreção deficiente de hormônio antidiurético (ADH) sendo a causa mais comum -a idiopática (possivelmente devido a lesão autoimune ás células produtoras de ADH) também podendos ser induzida por trauma, cirurgia hipofisária ou encefalopatia hipóxica ou isquêmica.

Central diabetes insipidus (CDI) is a hypothalamus-pituitary disease characterised by polyuria and polydipsia due to a vasopressin (AVP) deficiency. The condition may be associated with deficient secretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and is most frequently idiopathic (possibly due to autoimmune injury to the ADH-producing cells), or may be induced by trauma, pituitary surgery, or hypoxic or ischaemic encephalopathy.
