Anemias sideroblásticas são um grupo de transtornos nos quais a hemoglobina é insuficientemente sintetizada, devido a um defeito da utilização do ferro (apesar de os níveis plasmáticos de ferro estarem normais ou elevados). São chamadas sideroblásticas devido à presença de sideroblastos em anel no sangue devido ao acúmulo da ferritina na mitocôndria. As anemias podem ser hipocrômicas microcíticas (em talassemia e anemias sideroblásticas hereditárias), ou macrocíticas (em anemias sideroblásticas adquiridas idiopáticas). | |||

Sideroblastic anaemias are a group of disorders in which haemoglobin is insufficiently synthesized, because of defective use of iron (although plasmatic iron levels may be normal or elevated). They are said to be sideroblastic because of the presence of ringed sideroblasts in the blood due to accumulated ferritin in mitochondria. Sideroblastic anaemias are a group of disorders in which haemoglobin is insufficiently synthesized, because of defective use of iron (although plasmatic iron levels may be normal or elevated). They are said to be sideroblastic because of the presence of ringed sideroblasts in the blood due to accumulated ferritin in mitochondria. Anaemias may be microcytic hypochrome (in thalassemia and hereditary sideroblastic anaemias), or macrocytic (in idiopathic acquired sideroblastic anaemias).
