O melanoma lentigo maligno é uma forma de melanoma que ocorre dentro de um lentigo maligno quando as células neoplásicas não permanecem mais confinadas à epiderme (crescimento radial in situ), mas invadem a derme (crescimento vertical). O lentigo maligno do qual se origina pode sido uma mácula irregularmente pigmentada na pele exposta ao sol por muitos anos antes de sobrevir a invasão dérmica. A diferenciação clínica do lentigo maligno pode não ser possível nos estágios iniciais da invasão, mas à medida que o tumor progride, um espessamento focal ou nódulo dentro do lentigo maligno se torna aparente. | |||

The lentigo maligna from which it arises may have been present as an irregularly pigmented macule on sun-exposed skin for many years before dermal invasion supervenes. Clinical differentiation from lentigo maligna may not be possible in the early stages of invasion but as the tumour progresses a focal thickening or nodule within the lentigo maligna will become apparent. | |||
