Esta doença é caracterizada por ceratite pontilhada transitória ou condições potencialmente causadoras de cegueira (como ceratite esclerosante, iridociclite ou atrofia óptica). A transmissão ocorre por meio da picada de uma mosca Simulium infectada. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Onchocerca volvulus na câmara anterior do olho. | |||

This disease is characterised by transient punctate keratitis, or potentially blinding conditions (such as sclerosing keratitis, iridocyclitis, or optic atrophy). Transmission is through the bite of an infected Simulium fly. Confirmation is by identification of Onchocerca volvulus from the anterior chamber of the eye.
