Doença das meninges causada por uma infecção por Angiostrongylus cantonensis. Esta doença é caracterizada por febre, dor de cabeça, rigidez de nuca, náuseas, vômitos, fraqueza muscular ou parestesia. Esta doença também pode se manifestar com abscessos, edema cerebral, hemorragia, diplopia, ataxia ou cegueira. A transmissão ocorre pela ingestão de caracóis, lesmas ou hospedeiros de transporte (como sapos, camarões de água doce ou caranguejos terrestres) infectados mal cozidos. A confirmação é feita pela identificação de Angiostrongylus cantonensis em uma amostra de líquido cefalorraquidiano, em uma amostra de sangue ou por história alimentar. | |||
