Doença endêmica dos pampas argentinos, que é causada por uma infecção pelo vírus Junín e caracterizada por manifestações hemorrágicas e neurológicas e alta letalidade (10-30%). A doença começa com uma fase prodrômica de 6 a 14 dias. A febre hemorrágica argentina se apresenta com febre, mialgia, eritema, injeção conjuntival, sangramento uterino não menstrual, epistaxe, hematêmese, melena, hematúria ou choque. Cerca de 20-30% dos pacientes avançam para uma fase neurológica e hemorrágica. Os sobreviventes têm um longo período de convalescença. A transmissão ocorre por inalação, consumo ou contato direto com excreções e fluidos corporais de roedores infectados. O diagnóstico ocorre pela identificação do vírus Junín em amostras de sangue ou secreções mucosas. | |||
