+Apresentação glomerular específica com bandas densas de elétrons descontínuas dentro da membrana basal glomerular. Existe intensa coloração linear ou tipo banda na imunocoloração para o componente 3 do complemento (C3) com pouca ou nenhuma imunoglobulina. Anteriormente conhecida como glomerulonefrite membranoproliferativa Tipo II, mas na verdade a aparência à microscopia óptica pode variar amplamente. A doença de depósito denso é o resultado da ativação da via alternativa do complemento associada, a ativação descontrolada da C3 convertase. Em alguns casos, a lipodistrofia parcial também está associada.

+A specific glomerular appearance with discontinuous electron dense bands within the glomerular basement membrane. There is intense linear or band like immuno-staining for complement component 3 (C3) with little or no immunoglobulin. Previously known as Type II membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis but actually the light microscopic appearance can vary widely. Dense deposit disease is the result of activation of the alternative complement pathway associated, uncontrolled activation of C3 convertase. In some cases partial lipodystrophy is also associated.
