Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease) is a rare benign, self-limited but poorly understood disease characterised by malaise, fever, weight loss and localised lymphadenopathy affecting particularly cervical lymph nodes. Other important features found in a minority of cases include lymphocytopenia, a variety of skin manifestations and an association with systemic lupus erythematosus. The histological hallmark is histiocytic infiltration and necrosis of lymph nodes.
