Collagenous sprue is a disorder of the small intestinal mucosa, which shows a severe to variably severe "flattened" mucosal biopsy lesion with distinctive sub-epithelial collagen deposits in the lamina propria region. It is marked by persistent diarrhoea and severe malabsorption.
