Transtorno do desenvolvimento da fluência da fala que surge durante a infância sem causas ambientais reconhecíveis, que está fora dos limites de variação normais esperados para idade e nível de funcionamento intelectual e que está associado a anomalias cerebrais estruturais e funcionais. Esse tipo de taquifemia é geralmente classificado apenas como "taquifemia". É caracterizado por perturbação persistente e frequente ou global do fluxo rítmico da fala (sintomas típicos da taquifemia) que é atípica para a gagueira. Afeta a comunicação e inteligibilidade. Sintomas típicos da taquifemia são ritmo da fala acima do normal ou irregular, ou ambos, violação das estruturas de palavras ou frases através de anormalidades fonológicas, confluência ou omissão de sílabas, pausas incomuns, ênfase silábica anormal ou ritmo de fala incomum, e dificuldades para manter padrões normais de sons, sílabas, frases ou pausas.

It is characterised by persistent and frequent or pervasive disruption of the rhythmic flow of speech (clutter-typical symptoms) that is untypical for stuttering. It impairs communication and intelligibility. Clutter-typical symptoms are a higher than normal or irregular speech tempo, or both, violations of word and sentence structures with phonological abnormalities, confluence or omission of syllables, unusual pauses, abnormal syllable accent or unusual speech rhythm, and difficulties to maintain normal patterns of sounds, syllables, phrases, or pauses.
