Glomerular disease in which the majority of glomeruli have acute inflammatory exudates including fibrin and mononuclear cells within Bowmans space thus having a crescentic shape in sectioned material. This reflects severe glomerular capillary inflammation and is usually associated with rapid renal functional decline hence acute nephritic syndrome with acute renal failure (rapidly progressive nephritis).
