Polyarteritis involving the skin may be associated with polyarteritis involving internal organs but may also occur as a chronic organ-limited cutaneous arteritis limited to arterioles and small arteries of the subcutis, cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa. Classically there is a predominantly neutrophilic inflammatory infiltrate though in resolving or mild cases lymphocytes may predominate.
