Cestoides, mais comumente chamados de tênias, são vermes simétricos que parasitam o trato intestinal dos vertebrados. As tênias consistem em uma cabeça (escólex), um pescoço e uma região germinativa que consiste em uma cadeia de segmentos individuais separados que têm um conjunto completo de órgãos reprodutivos em maturação progressiva. O escólex se fixa à mucosa intestinal do hospedeiro e as tênias crescem quando os segmentos brotam do escólex. Os segmentos aumentam, desenvolvendo um grande número de ovos que são posteriormente eliminados nas fezes.

Cestodes, more commonly called tapeworms, are symmetric flatworms that parasitize the intestinal tract of vertebrates. Tapeworms consist of a head (scolex), a neck, and a germinal region that consists of a string of separate individual segments that have a full set of progressively maturing reproductive organs. The scolex attaches to the host's intestinal mucosa, and tapeworms grow when segments bud from the scolex. The segments enlarge by developing large numbers of eggs that are subsequently shed in the stool.
