Rhinitis of pregnancy is a sub-phenotype of hormonal-induced rhinitis. It is a common condition, more prevalent among smokers. Raised levels of estrogen are thought to cause nasal congestion by vascular engorgement, increased beta-oestradiol and progesterone which affect mucosal H1 receptors and eosinophil function.
