Inflammation of the meninges due to Behcet’s disease. The syndrome is clinically characterised by headache, neck stiffness, fever and photophobia. The presentation may be acute, subacute, chronic or recurrent. Other clinical features of Behcet’s disease, both neurological and non-neurological, may be present. Diagnosis may be aided by neuroimaging, pathergy testing and HLA testing. Spinal fluid analysis may reveal a lymphocytic pleocytosis, raised protein and the presence of oligoclonal bands.
