A mielopatia por konzo frequentemente se apresenta com tetra ou paraparesia espástica que ocorre de forma abrupta e é permanente. Está relacionado ao consumo de raízes amargas de mandioca mal processadas, muitas vezes entre pessoas com dieta pobre em proteínas e deficientes em aminoácidos sulfurados. O processo de cianogênese é considerado a causa da patologia. Relatado pela primeira vez na República Democrática do Congo, também foi visto em Camarões, Tanzânia, República Centro-Africana e Moçambique. | |||||||||||||||

It is related to the consumption of poorly processed bitter Cassava roots, often among people with low protein diet and who are deficient in sulfur amino acids. The process of Cyanogenesis is thought to be the cause of the pathology. First reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it has also been seen in Cameroon, Tanzania, Central African Republic, and Mozambique. | |||||||||||||||
