Shagreen patch is a form of connective tissue naevus which is strongly associated with tuberous sclerosis but which cannot be differentiated clinically or histologically from an innocent connective tissue nevus. Its name derives from its resemblance to the surface of untanned leather (rawhide). The presence of a shagreen patch should prompt investigation for underlying tuberous sclerosis.
