Transtorno inflamatório e degenerativo da medula espinal devido a infecção pelo vírus HIV. As colunas posterior e lateral são predominantemente afetadas e mostram degeneração vacuolar. Os sintomas e sinais usualmente têm início subagudo a crônico, e incluem paraparesia ou paraplegia espástica, perda sensitiva de coluna posterior e perda de controle esfincteriano. O diagnóstico pode ser confirmado por meio de neuroimagem, análise de líquido cefalorraquidiano, testes sorológicos e ensaio de PCR. | |||||||||||||||
