Ictiose vulgar é responsável por 95% de todos os casos de ictiose hereditária. É uma condição autossômica dominante devida a mutações no gene da filagrina. Ao nascimento, a pele pode parecer normal, mas torna-se gradualmente seca, áspera e escamosa, com a maioria dos sinais e sintomas aparecendo por volta dos 5 anos de idade. A ictiose vulgar pode afetar todas as partes da superfície da pele, incluindo o rosto e couro cabeludo, embora as flexuras dos membros sejam geralmente poupadas. A hiperlinearidade das palmas é uma manifestação característica. Está intimamente associada ao desenvolvimento de eczema atópico. | |||||||||||||||

Ichthyosis vulgaris accounts for 95% of all cases of hereditary ichthyosis. It is an autosomal dominant condition due to filaggrin gene mutations. At birth the skin may appear normal but it gradually becomes dry, rough and scaly, with most signs and symptoms appearing by the age of 5. Ichthyosis vulgaris can affect all parts of the skin surface including the face and scalp though the limb flexures are usually spared. Hyperlinearity of the palms is a characteristic feature.
