A síndrome do dietilestilbestrol fetal é caracterizada por um grupo de sintomas que podem ocorrer em filhos e netos de uma mulher que foi tratada durante a gravidez com dietilestilbestrol (DES). A droga é um estrogênio não esteróide sintético, usado nos Estados Unidos até 1971 e na Europa até 1978 para tentar e prevenir aborto, parto prematuro e outras complicações da gravidez. Foi estimado que 25% dos fetos do sexo feminino expostos ao DES 'in utero' durante o primeiro trimestre desenvolveram posteriormente anomalias do trato genital, incluindo adenose vaginal, malformações cervicais, septos vaginais, anomalias da cavidade uterina ou anomalias de tuba uterina causando problemas de fertilidade subsequentes. | |||||||||||||||
