Doença causada por infecção intrauterina pelo vírus da rubéola. Esta doença se apresenta com sintomas que dependem do momento de infecção do feto e pode apresentar defeitos congênitos (como perda auditiva) ou retardo de crescimento intrauterino. A transmissão ocorre por transmissão vertical.
