Uma placenta grande, também conhecida como placentomegalia, é uma que pesa > 750 g. A placentomegalia pode ser observada nas seguintes condições: hidropsia fetal, diabetes mellitus materno, incompatibilidade de Rh, infecções crônicas (p. ex., sífilis, citomegalovírus), anemia materna ou edema placentário agudo com corioamnionite aguda.
