DHGNA (doença hepática gordurosa não alcoólica) é caracterizada por fígado gorduroso relacionado à resistência a insulina na ausência de consumo alcoólico significativo. Abrange um espectro patológico desde estatose simples até esteatohepatite. Cerca de 10 a 20% dos casos têm esteatohepatite (esteatohepatite não alcoólica: NASH), que pode progredir para cirrose e carcinoma hepatocelular.
