Megacólon tóxico é uma forma aguda de distensão do cólon, caracterizada por dilatação acentuada do cólon, acompanhada por distensão abdominal (inchaço) e, às vezes, febre, dor abdominal ou choque. "Tóxico" significa que esta complicação ocorre com inflamação.
