Macroglossia é o termo médico para uma língua grande ou aumentada. Pode ser devida a uma variedade de condições congênitas ou adquiridas. Macroglossia isolada não tem causa determinada. Ela é observada comumente na síndrome de Down. As causas mais comuns de aumento da língua são malformações vasculares (p.ex., linfangioma ou hemangioma) e hipertrofia muscular. Pode, no entanto, ser devida a infiltração, assim como ocorre na amiloidose sistêmica primária. | |||||||||||||||

Macroglossia is the medical term for a large or enlarged tongue. It may be due to a variety of congenital and acquired conditions. Isolated macroglossia has no determinable cause. It is seen commonly in Down syndrome. The most common causes of tongue enlargement are vascular malformations (e.g. lymphangioma or haemangioma) and muscular hypertrophy.
