O termo pseudomiotonia (relaxamento lento dos músculos após contração voluntária) descreve a aparência clínica da miotonia na ausência de descargas miotônicas na eletromiografia. Pseudomiotonia é mais comumente observada como reflexos tendinosos de relaxamento lento ou "travados" de hipotireoidismo, embora outras causas sejam descritas. A pseudomiotonia é observada em cerca de um terço dos pacientes com síndrome de Isaacs, particularmente com preensão manual, mas também após fechamento de olho e mandíbula; raramente, este pode ser o primeiro sintoma. | |||||||||||||||

Pseudomyotonia is most commonly observed as the slow-relaxing or “hung-up” tendon reflexes of hypothyroidism, although other causes are described.
