Síndrome de Tourette é transtorno de tique crônico caracterizado pela presença de tiques motores crônicos e de tiques vocais (fônicos), com início durante o período de desenvolvimento. Tiques motores e vocais são definidos como movimentos ou vocalizações, respectivamente, abruptos, rápidos, não rítmicos e recorrentes. Para ser diagnosticado como síndrome de Tourette, ambos os tiques motores e vocais devem estar presentes por pelo menos um ano, apesar de poderem não se manifestar de forma concorrente ou consistente durante o todo o curso sintomático.

Tourette syndrome is a chronic tic disorder characterised by the presence of both chronic motor tics and vocal (phonic) tics, with onset during the developmental period. Motor and vocal tics are defined as sudden, rapid, non-rhythmic, and recurrent movements or vocalizations, respectively. In order to be diagnosed as Tourette syndrome, both motor and vocal tics must have been present for at least one year, although they may not manifest concurrently or consistently throughout the symptomatic course.
