Um transtorno leve do desenvolvimento intelectual é uma condição que se origina durante o período do desenvolvimento, caracterizada por funcionamento intelectual e comportamento adaptativo significativamente abaixo da média, aproximadamente dois a três desvios padrões abaixo da média (aproximadamente no percentil 0,1 - 2,3), baseado em testes adequadamente normatizados, padronizados, administrados individualmente ou em indicadores comportamentais comparáveis, quando testagem padronizada não está disponível. As pessoas afetadas frequentemente apresentam dificuldades na aquisição e compreensão de conceitos de linguagem e habilidade acadêmicas complexos. A maioria domina atividades básicas de autocuidado, domésticas e práticas. Affected persons often exhibit difficulties in the acquisition and comprehension of complex language concepts and academic skills. Most master basic self-care, domestic, and practical activities.
