Mioclonia proprioespinal do início do sono consiste de espasmos mioclônicos abruptos do tronco, quadris, e joelhos em um padrão fixo que ocorre durante a transição da vigília para o sono e, mais raramente, durante os despertares noturnos ou ao despertar de manhã. Os espasmos ocorrem principalmente nos músculos inervados pelas raízes espinais e depois disso se propagam para os músculos rostrais e caudais em baixa velocidade, típico das vias proprioespinais. Os movimentos resultam em dificuldade clinicamente significativa com o início ou manutenção do sono. | |||||||||||||||

Propriospinal myoclonus at sleep onset consists of sudden myoclonic jerks of the trunk, hips, and knees in a fixed pattern that occur during the transition from wakefulness to sleep and, more rarely, during nighttime awakenings or upon awakening in the morning. The jerks arise mainly in spinally innervated muscles and thereafter propagate to rostral and caudal muscles at a low speed, typical of propriospinal pathways. The movements result in clinically significant difficulty with sleep initiation or maintenance. | |||||||||||||||
