Deficiência em humanos é apenas descrita em pacientes recebendo nutrição parenteral total (NPT) prolongada insuficiente em cromo. Hiperglicemia ou tolerância alterada a glicose podem ocorrer. Elevadas concentrações séricas de ácidos graxos livres, neuropatia, encefalopatia e anormalidades no metabolismo do nitrogênio também são reportadas.

Elevated plasma free fatty acid concentrations, neuropathy, encephalopathy, and abnormalities in nitrogen metabolism are also reported.
