O raquitismo é uma doença do crescimento ósseo causado pela diminuição de mineralização da matriz óssea nas placas de crescimento e ocorre apenas em crianças antes da fusão das epífises. Existem muitas causas para o raquitismo, incluindo distúrbios de vitamina D, deficiência de cálcio, deficiência de fósforo e acidose tubular renal distal. There are many causes of rickets, including vitamin D disorders, calcium deficiency, phosphorous deficiency, and distal renal tubular acidosis.
