Tireotoxicose com bócio difuso (também conhecida como doença de Graves ou doença de Basedow) é uma forma de doença autoimune da tireoide e é a principal causa de hipertireoidismo e tireotoxicose. Nessa condição, as imunoglobulinas estimulantes da tireoide se ligam e ativam o receptor de TSH, resultando em produção excessiva de hormônio tireoidiano. A doença é caracterizada por bócio, batimentos cardíacos rápidos e irregulares, perda de peso, irritabilidade, ansiedade e frequentemente uma (leve) protrusão dos globos oculares. | |||||||||||||||

In this condition, thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins bind to and activate the TSH receptor, resulting in excessive thyroid hormone production.
