Nevos melanocíticos congênitos são áreas circunscritas de pigmentação da pele presentes no nascimento como resultado da proliferação intrauterina anormal de melanócitos na derme, na epiderme ou em ambas. Podem variar em tamanho de alguns milímetros a vários centímetros de diâmetro. Se o diâmetro máximo projetado ou final no adulto for maior que 20 cm, eles são denominados nevos melanocíticos congênitos gigantes.

Congenital melanocytic naevi are circumscribed areas of skin pigmentation present at birth as a result of abnormal intrauterine proliferation of melanocytes within the dermis, the epidermis or both. They may range in size from a few millimetres to many centimetres in diameter. If their projected or final adult maximal diameter is greater than 20 cm they are termed giant congenital melanocytic naevi.
