Adenocarcinoma originado da próstata. É um dos tumores malignos mais comuns que afetam homens. A maioria dos adenocarcinomas surge na zona periférica e uma minoria ocorre na zona central ou de transição da próstata. A classificação do adenocarcinoma da próstata prediz a progressão da doença e se correlaciona com a sobrevida. Vários sistemas de graduação foram propostos, dos quais o sistema de Gleason é o mais comumente usado. As somas de Gleason de 2 a 4 representam doenças bem diferenciadas, 5 a 7 doenças moderadamente diferenciadas e 8 a 10 doenças pouco diferenciadas. O teste sérico do antígeno específico da próstata (PSA) é amplamente utilizado como teste de triagem para a detecção precoce de adenocarcinoma prostático. | |||||||||||||||

Gleason sums of 2 to 4 represent well-differentiated disease, 5 to 7 moderately differentiated disease and 8 to 10 poorly differentiated disease.
