Carcinoma de células escamosas originando-se do epitélio cervical. Geralmente evolui de uma lesão cervical pré-cancerosa. Números altos de parceiros sexuais e infecção pelo papilomavírus humano (HPV) são fatores de risco para o carcinoma de células escamosas do colo do útero. Os seguintes padrões histológicos foram descritos: carcinoma de células escamosas convencional, carcinoma de células escamosas papilar, carcinoma de células transicionais, carcinoma tipo linfoepitelioma, carcinoma verrucoso, carcinoma condilomatoso e carcinoma de células fusiformes. A sobrevivência está mais intimamente relacionada ao estágio da doença no momento do diagnóstico. | |||||||||||||||

The following histologic patterns have been described: Conventional squamous cell carcinoma, papillary squamous cell carcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma, lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma, verrucous carcinoma, condylomatous carcinoma and spindle cell carcinoma. Increased numbers of sexual partners and human papillomavirus (HPV) infection are risk factors for cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
