O melanoma maligno lentiginoso acral é uma forma distinta e incomum de melanoma que afeta a pele palmar e plantar ou o aparelho ungueal. Geralmente é precedido por uma fase in situ lentamente progressiva que pode ser negligenciada. Normalmente se apresenta como uma área crescente de pigmentação macular nas palmas e plantas ou como uma faixa pigmentada longitudinal dentro da lâmina ungueal. Os tumores mais agressivos apresentam-se como nódulos ulcerados que, ao envolverem o aparelho ungueal, podem destruir a lâmina ungueal. O melanoma maligno lentiginoso acral é responsável por uma alta proporção de melanomas vistos em pessoas de pele escura.

Acral lentiginous malignant melanoma is a distinct and uncommon form of melanoma affecting either palmar and plantar skin or the nail apparatus. It is usually preceded by a slowly progressive in situ phase which may be overlooked. It typically presents either as an enlarging area of macular pigmentation on the palms and soles or as a longitudinal pigmented band within the nail plate. More aggressive tumours present as ulcerated nodules which, when involving the nail apparatus, can destroy the nail plate. Acral lentiginous malignant melanoma accounts for a high proportion of melanomas seen in dark-skinned people.
