Doença resultante de água potável contaminada com pulgas de água infectadas com larvas do nematoide Dracunculus medinensis. Pode levar até um ano a partir da ingestão das larvas para que um verme fêmea grávida madura migre para a pele e libere larvas imaturas em contato com a água. A dracunculíase tipicamente se manifesta como uma pápula intensamente pruriginosa em uma extremidade inferior, da qual parte do verme pode emergir. Infecção piogênica secundária é comum. Isso pode ser precedido por sintomas generalizados, como febre, prurido, urticária e edema. | |||||||||||||||

It may take up to a year from ingestion of larvae for a mature gravid female worm to migrate to the skin and discharge immature larvae on contact with water. Dracunculiasis typically manifests as an intensely pruritic papule on a lower extremity from which part of the worm may emerge. Secondary pyogenic infection is common.
