Doença do sistema hepático, causada por uma infecção pelo verme parasita Fasciola. Na fase aguda, essa doença é caracterizada por dor em abdome superior, febre, urticária, falta de ar, náuseas ou vômitos devido à migração do parasita dos intestinos para o fígado. Na fase crônica, esta doença é caracterizada por colestase, colangite, pancreatite ou cálculos biliares. Esta doença pode ser assintomática. A transmissão ocorre pela ingestão de plantas aquáticas contaminadas mal cozidas ou água contaminada. A confirmação é feita comumente pela identificação de ovos de Fasciola em uma amostra de fezes (após o indivíduo ter seguido uma dieta sem fígado antes da testagem) ou detecção de anticorpos contra Fasciola. | |||||||||||||||

In the acute phase, this disease is characterised by upper abdominal pain, fever, urticaria, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting due to migration of the parasite from the intestines to the liver. In the chronic phase, this disease is characterised by cholestasis, cholangitis, pancreatitis, or gallstones. This disease may be asymptomatic. Transmission is by ingestion of undercooked contaminated aquatic plants or contaminated water. Confirmation is commonly by identification of Fasciola eggs in a faecal sample (after the individual has followed a liver-free diet prior to testing), or detection of antibodies against Fasciola. | |||||||||||||||
