+Doença causada por infecção pelo verme parasita Schistosoma mansoni. Esta doença comumente se apresenta com febre de Katayama, granulomas hepáticos perissinusoidais que se formam ao redor dos ovos, fibrose periportal (fibrose de Symmers) ou hipertensão portal. Também pode se manifestar com granulomas embólicos que se formam ao redor dos ovos no cérebro ou na medula espinal. A transmissão ocorre por contato direto com água doce contaminada com ovos do Schistosoma mansoni ou caramujos portadores do Schistosoma mansoni. A confirmação é feita pela identificação dos ovos do Schistosoma mansoni em uma amostra de fezes.

Transmission is by direct contact with freshwater that has been contaminated with Schistosoma mansoni eggs or snails that carry Schistosoma mansoni. Confirmation is by identification of the Schistosoma mansoni eggs in a faecal sample.
