Doença das meninges e do cérebro, causada por uma infecção pelo parasita protozoário Toxoplasma gondii. Esta doença é caracterizada por convulsões, dor no pescoço, déficits neurológicos ou alterações em comportamento, cognição ou consciência. A transmissão ocorre por disseminação hematogênica para as meninges e cérebro após a ingestão direta de alimentos contaminados, ou transmissão indireta por consumo de alimentos ou água contaminados com fezes de gato infectadas. A confirmação é feita pela detecção de anticorpos contra Toxoplasma gondii no líquido cefalorraquidiano ou identificação de Toxoplasma gondii no líquido cefalorraquidiano e exames avançados de imagem do sistema nervoso.

A disease of the meninges and brain, caused by an infection with the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. This disease is characterised by seizures, neck pain, neurological deficits, or alterations in behaviour, cognition, or consciousness. Transmission is by haematogenous spread to the meninges and brain after direct ingestion of contaminated food, or indirect transmission by consumption of food or water contaminated with infected cat faeces. Confirmation is by detection of antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii in cerebrospinal fluid or identification of Toxoplasma gondii in cerebrospinal fluid, and advanced imaging of the nervous system.
