+Kerion resulta de uma resposta inflamatória grave do hospedeiro à infecção por dermatófitos nos folículos capilares do couro cabeludo ou da barba. Tipicamente se apresenta como uma única massa acentuadamente inflamatória, dolorosa e supurativa e é mais comumente uma reação a uma infecção por dermatófito zoofílico, especialmente Trichophyton verrucosum (micose do gado) ou Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
