+Lesão e inflamação hepáticas agudas causadas por infecção recente (menos de 6 meses) pelo vírus da hepatite D (HDV). A transmissão ocorre apenas em alguém com infecção crônica pelo HBV (superinfecção) ou ao mesmo tempo que a hepatite B aguda (coinfecção), e ocorre por contaminação de sangue e fluidos corporais (disseminação parenteral) e transmissão sexual. O diagnóstico é confirmado pelo soro IgM-anti-HDV. As manifestações clínicas, se ocorrerem, são caracterizadas por anorexia, náusea e febre, com icterícia nos casos graves. A insuficiência hepática aguda ocorre em alguns casos, e uma alta proporção dos casos desenvolve infecção crônica por HDV.
